About us

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for National Parks and National Landscapes was established in October 2025.

Chaired by Barry Gardiner MP, its purpose is to champion the protection, enhancement, and sustainable enjoyment of England’s most treasured natural spaces. The APPG provides a cross-party platform in the Westminster Parliament to raise awareness, advocate for progressive legislative and policy changes, and bring together stakeholders from across the UK to deliver a positive future for protected landscapes.

Over the lifetime of this Parliament, the APPG will aim to:

  • Establish the Group as a highly respected voice in Parliament on issues affecting National Parks and National Landscapes.
  • Develop and promote a shared parliamentary agenda based around nature recovery, climate action, rural economies, health and wellbeing, and inclusive access within protected landscapes.
  • Deliver on the UK government’s commitment to update the 1949 National Park and Access to the Countryside Act, including reform of purposes and governance of National Parks and National Landscapes.
  • Foster collaboration between Parliamentarians, national and local partners, including managing and public bodies, NGOs, landowners, local communities, and young people.
  • Create opportunities for MPs and Peers to experience National Parks and Landscapes first-hand, through visits and on-site briefings.
  • Support evidence-based policymaking through briefings, and expert stakeholder engagement.
