Why were National Parks and National Landscapes created?

National Parks and National Landscapes were created to protect the country’s most special natural spaces for the conservation and enhancement of nature and enjoyment by the public.

Who manages National Parks and National Landscapes?

Management of National Parks is overseen by National Park Authorities and National Landscapes by National Landscape Partnerships or Conservation Boards. These bodies are responsible for delivering the objectives set out in the landscape’s Management Plan, a document prepared and regularly reviewed in consultation with partners and the public.

Who owns the land in National Parks and National Landscapes?

None of the land in National Landscapes is owned by the National Landscape teams, and little of the land in National Parks is owned by National Park Authorities, though this varies between Parks. They work in partnership with local authorities, landowners and partners to coordinate work across the area.
